Sunamganj district is known throughout the country as low land. 'Fishes,

stones, rice are the soul of Sunamganj is universally recognized in the parable.

Bishwamvorpur upazila under Sunamganj district sorrouned by haor is highly

disaster prone area. It is also known as the Ancient kalidaha Sea. Agriculture is

the main livelihood option of the area. Various types of disaster are the main

obstacle to the development here. Flash flood is the main disaster in this area.

Apart from this, the significant disasters of this upazils are seasonal floods,

river erosion, water logging, storms, etc.

VARD is implementing Disaster Management (DM) Plan Project in

Bishwamvorpur upazila through the financial assistance of (CDMP) Phase-II

The Disaster Management Plan has been prepared on the basis of the opinions

of Upazila Disaster Management Committee which are extremely realistic and

timely. This plan will play an important role to reduce disaster risk of the area,
