Report of Assessing stakeholders’ role in preparation for and facing the Cyclone MAHASEN
Formed on 11th May in Bay of Bengal, the tropical storm Mahasen struck some south east coast of Bangladesh on May 16, 2013. It lashed villages with heavy rain and severe winds that crushed around 23539 mud -straw huts fully damaged and 109867 huts partially damaged, lost standing crops and caused more than 1 million residents in 13 coastal districts to take emergency shelter in the 24-hour period prior to the storm (chronology, its effect and responses of different actors are described in annex 1). Assessments by the Government indicate that 17 people died and some 1.2 million people were affected by the storm .
